One by One Ministries has a mission to mentor and educate new moms to parent well. Moms come to One by One for a variety of reasons: they’re facing an unplanned pregnancy, they’re alone and/or scared, or they’re just not sure how to be a good mom. We train mentors to offer new moms hope, encouragement, and education on baby health, safety, wellness, and development. Mentors also provide parenting and life skills education as well as activities moms can do with their babies to encourage appropriate development in cognitive, emotional, social, and motor skills. If needed, mentors help connect moms to other resources for housing, transportation, child care, counseling, etc.
We use an evidence-based program to train mentors and provide them with all they need to make a difference in the life of a new mom. We match one mentor with one mom; they talk/text weekly and meet in person or virtually once a month throughout the mom’s pregnancy and her baby’s first year. There is no charge for mentor or mom to participate. Mentors and moms meet at a time and location convenient to both of them.
We currently offer in-person mentoring opportunities in Southaven, Olive Branch, Horn Lake, Corinth, Tupelo, Columbus, and Oxford. We offer virtual mentoring opportunities statewide.
